Cultural Ambassadorial Scholarships

The purpose of the Ambassadorial Scholarships program is to further international understanding and friendly relations among people of different countries and geographical areas. The program sponsors several types of scholarships for undergraduate and graduate students as well as for qualified professionals pursuing vocational studies.

Cultural Ambassadorial Scholarships

The Cultural Ambassadorial Scholarships are available to students for either three or six months of intensive language study and cultural immersion in another country. This award provides funds to cover round-trip transportation, language training
expenses, and homestay living arrangements. Applications are considered for candidates interested in studying Arabic, English, French, German, Hebrew, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Mandarin Chinese, Polish, Portuguese, Russian, Spanish, Swahili, and Swedish.

PhD Scholarship in Water Optimization, Australia

Application Deadline 7 August 2009.

The University of Ballarat (UB) is offering a unique opportunity for a
research student to undertake PhD studies in water optimization,
as part of a recently awarded Australian Research Council (ARC) Linkage Grant with
industry partner Grampians Wimmera Mallee Water (GWMWater).

GWMWater is a leading water corporation covering almost a quarter of
Victoria.s land mass, which includes the driest areas in the State.
GWMWater is a progressive company with a strong history of working with
research organisations to find better ways to manage the State’s water
resources.

The student will work with Chief Investigators (CIs) Dr Adil Bagirov and
Professor John Yearwood – UB and Professor Bill Moran – University of
Melbourne, on this project titled “Integrating dynamic and optimization
models for efficient pipeline system operations in an evolving water and
energy market”. The PhD student will specifically focus on the development
of the optimization model, and provide the evaluation of solutions from
the integrated model.

This APAI scholarship covers tuition fees at the University of Ballarat,
plus a fortnightly tax-free stipend totaling AUD$26,140 per year for three
years. The student will be based in the Graduate School of Information
Technology & Mathematical Sciences at UB.s Mt Helen Campus in Ballarat.

Application Process:

* Candidates with a background in mathematics, engineering or applied
sciences are encouraged to apply.
* An appropriate Honours 1 or 2A undergraduate degree is required, or
alternatively candidates will need to complete a UB Honours Equivalance
Form.
* Australian Citizenship is no longer a requirement, under the amended
eligibility criteria set out by the Australian Government.
