Norwegian Government Scholarships 2008/2009

The Norwegian Government, through the International Scholarship Section (IS) of The Research Council of Norway, offers a pool of scholarships for advanced students and young researchers for the academic year 2008/2009.

The Norwegian Government offers, through the Research Council of Norway, scholarships to nationals of 24 countries in order to support a temporary stay in Norway of up to one academic year.

Purpose
The Norwegian Government scholarships promote contact and mobility between students and researchers at institutions of higher education and research. The scholarships are open to all areas of academic studies and research, including applied and performing arts.

Scholarships are valid at accredited Norwegian universities, research institutes, university colleges and other institutions at university level.

The scholarships are aimed primarily at students who are enrolled in a degree programme in their home country and wish to conduct a stay in Norway as an integral part of their studies as well as post docs and younger researchers who wish to conduct research in Norway.

Countries
Nationals of the following countries, with which Norway has reciprocal scholarship agreements, may apply: Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, the Czech Republic, Finland, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Italy, Ireland, Israel, Japan, Mexico, the Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Russia, Slovakia, Spain, Switzerland, Turkey, and the United Kingdom.

Selection
The selection of candidates is carried out by the national scholarship body in the candidate's home country. A list of these can be downloaded from the right-hand box. All applications must be sent to us through the relevant national scholarship body. We cannot consider applications sent directly to the IS.

Eligibility
Foreign nationals who study/intend to study for a whole degree in Norway, or have been living and/or studying in Norway for a long period of time, or reside in Norway on a permanent basis are not eligible to apply.
